Geovisualization of Child‑Friendly Urban Mobility

Design and Implementation of a Visualization Tool

Abstract

Urban mobility planning rarely accounts for the specific needs and experiences of children. This thesis presents a geo-visualization tool that visualizes the results of NetAScore4Teens, a tailored adaptation of the open-source NetAScore framework designed to evaluate the walkability and bikeability of urban streets from a child-centered perspective. Applied to Salzburg, Austria, the tool integrates spatial network data with participatory insights gathered through workshops with children from SALIS International School Salzburg, capturing their mobility perceptions, preferences and needs. The result is a spatially explicit score that supports planners in designing streets that are safer and more inclusive for younger users.
